Holiday? What holiday?

This week is moderation week, so we've got a little more time to squeeze in about 2 hours of sleep that we've missed out on over the last few weeks and then get cracking at the real work.

This is not a holiday but an opportunity to get all the re-fabrication done, accessories together and start patterns, or maybe I'm just a little over eager. Just really glad to be able to focus on getting things done before going back to those tons of assignments waiting for us.

Global warming in my designs are to communicate a break in the natural chain of being, an unsettled ecosystem and the recreation of the characteristics of creatures and earth inspired sources.
Which is why I am experimenting with dye samples, which could bring to life the characteristics of the world in its damaged state.

Here are some fabric refabrication samples, I'm planning to experiment with.

The preliminary

Re-fabrication samples for our collections are due this coming Friday and everyone's in a frenzy to get the most unique kinds of re-fabrication (in the least time consuming frame of time, that is) done.

The storyboards are well underway and possibly the of the best range of storyboards will be the outcome of this 2011's 3rd years.

My collection is named ZENITH which is supposed to conceptualize global warming and the break down of nature. In my range the characteristics of nature would be brought to life in the form of re-fabrication and ultimately show how nature reclaims what belongs to it.

Fabrics would be re-fabricated, yet not over power design and proper construction. This would be my greatest mission yet, but I look forward to assembling them all.

For the trend book of my collection, I re-fabricated samples, these are the photo's of them.
Latest re-fabrication that I've tried is rusting.

I think it looks awesome.

Took 4 days to look like this!

Crazy week

If you've ever had a day when you've felt like you were losing your mind, you would know how I've been feeling this past week.

A mini break down of all our hand-in's for the week ranged from 70 designs in a sketch book for our final collection, visual unit display design, CAD spot test, drapery with a partner, techinical drawings of chosen designs for storyboards and updating croque and history research for progress marks. Sounds a lot less than it was but I think everyone really felt the pressure this week.

Which is only the start of greater tasks to come. Which I must admit I have a bittersweet anticipation and anxiety over.

I thought these photo's would tell a better story of my week then I could.

Nicole Furter had been raising funds to shave her hair for cancer and as usual, didn't disappoint. I think that very few people can pull off the look, and yet she's done it again.

Here's the before, unfortunately I haven't taken her after pic, but watch this space! Promise to load one asap.

Pencil skirt mission

This week we made a tailored skirt, a simple garment, I know. The vent; however is another mission on its own. Slightly more complicated than I'd initially thought, but I managed.

Yes, in case you're wondering, I had to match all my seams

Final skirt hand-ins
These simple features of design would help my when designing for my collection, which I have been working on for the last 3 weeks. Due date is Monday, and I am really keen on constructive feedback from all my lecturers.

Final designs are bringing the buzz of final collection to life, I am so eager to start already!

Beach Day!

Every year, we participate in team building which bridges the gap between 1st, 2nd and 3rd years. Considering the fact that the 3rd years have collection designs to complete, I wasn't particularly keen on a beach day. I did attend and am really glad that I did.

I realised that even more so now than in previous years, the respective classes by-pass each other and I can't tell the difference between 1st and 2nd years, which meant I'd been living in my own little bubble since the year began.

Really awesome to have worked with such diverse group of personalities

Waiting for the fun to begin

My group built the Eifle Tower. Majorly ambitious bunch of 1st and 2nd years, which I think turned out pretty cool.

So whoever said all work and no play, definitely didn't participate in our FEDISA team building beach day.
